This was my first time reading any Percy Jackson book. I never read it when I was younger, but decided to pick it up before the show on Disney+ comes out. I do not regret my decision.

This was a brilliant story. I loved all the action and suspense, but also the humorous aspects mixed in with it. I found that the small jokes made every now and then in the books made it a much more enjoyable read, having a few things to laugh at, even though they could be in a huge fight scene. The fast-paced nature of this book made me enjoy it even more. Instead of reading dull, boring, filler chapters, it felt like each chapter was written with real meaning and would add something valuable to the storyline.

Percy is such a well-written character, and I admire Riordan for allowing him to have dyslexia and ADHD, seeing as many authors in 2005 (even still in 2022) don't include any neurodiversity in their books. He is a great friend to Grover whilst at the school, and I find that him choosing the outcast to befriend, shows just how kind of a person he is.

Grover is probably my favourite character in this book. He is funny, caring, and loyal, which I think made him perfect for helping Percy and Annabeth in the quest. He doesn't let himself forget about anyone, and is the most selfless of all the characters in the book, with his only true dream being to find Pan, to help all Satyrs.

Annabeth is also an amazing character. Not just because of how well-developed her character is after only one book, but also because of her nerve and ambition. Her wish to be an architect and her determination to come back from the quest successfully shows that she cares a lot as well. Not only for herself, but even for Percy and Grover (even if she denies it).

There isn't really anything more I could ask from this book, and anything that I could eventually think of would probably be seen in the rest of the series (I can't wait to finish it).

Overall, this book is one of the best I have read this year, which is a lot. And although it is classified as a book for younger people, I know that teens and maybe older, can definitely enjoy it just as much.
